Ellie Goulding/ Stevie Wonder - A.K.A DISCO - Under Superstition Mash-up??

It shouldn't work - but this is Gold !

GOLD BLOOD

Gold blood is- collaboration between PhD student Emile Bojesen and keyboard enthusiast Michael Anthony Wright - Well so there Muxtape says!

These 2 have managed to fuse what at some moments comes across as hardcore spoken poetic style vocals with synthy and somewhat 80's musical styling, but don't get me wrong they are nothing like that 80's synth crap that's been filling the airwaves for far to long!
Far from it, Gold Blood are a mix of hardcore, punk, classic pop form, rock and experimental electronics!!! On paper it shouldn't work, but it does......Brilliantly !

Songs like Well City, start with a dreamy, eerie introduction and then Emile's rock vocal bring it into a catchy chorus. Then there's "Another World" which comes across as the most accessible track, the song seems influenced by the best bits of the 80's but has been given a new and unique twist! Its a song I could put on repeat...

My Favorite track on the Human Shield E.P is Hair - Seems to be the bands most experimental track - industrial sounds with hunted drawn out vocals - makes for uneasy easy listening !

Looking forward to seeing them live -

Sister ... Sisters!

Bright beach roof

Tipped by Brooklyn Vegan as a band to watch, Sisters tick all the right boxes for me!....The Brooklyn 2 Piece who I'm sure have been compared to most of the Lo-fi bands that have managed to slither onto most Blogs this year...Like Wavves...No Age...etc etc!

For Me though the band are a little different and The New Yorker was spot on when it said "Sisters pull 90s Rock into the 21st Century"

Its more than ok !

there's a certain satifaction for me when I find something I really love by accident! And this is what happened with Zebra and Snake

They have a great sound, i mean it is very "Now" and "synthy 80s" but whatever I like it and i espcially love the last video on the myspace... If thats how it makes people react I cant wait to see them live...

It's a shame as i have just missed there 3 London shows....by a few days! but I wait eagerly for the next !

New Era? New Sounds? NewIslands !

Photobucket

NewIslands seem to have stormed onto the radar at the end part of 2009 and are now being tipped by various blogs including Digital My Ass as the band to watch out for in 2010...New Era, New Sound, NewIslands...so it would seem! And with Everyone's a DJ Has gone as far as to say the band are a degree above Miike Snow .

For me NewIslands merge most of the sounds from my favourite bands, past and present ... Shivers has The darkness of Echo and the Bunny man with the same stylistics of Miike Snow Burial, Paradise is a pop classic waiting to happen and Out of Time takes elements of MgMt and turn it on its side and into an anthem any festival could be proud of...Out of Time is a song that we should all be humming Reading 2010 ! and then theres the more interesting sounding tracks like Girl from Venus with its Acid Casualty sound circa 67, that shows the bands love for music like The Doors, Japan and Syd Barret... With such an eclectic bunch of songs there actually is something for all ears!

I Mean you should really check them out for yourselves - NewIslands and what I suggest you do is catch them live in December @ 229 ...as the live experience is something else and brings across a totally different (equally as epic) vibe to the tracks on the myspace.

I have heard through the grapevine, that there's a few more sneaky remixes lurking about... I know for sure of Out of time (Is Tropical Remix) and of course the amazing Active Child Remix, but i have also heard of a possible remix by serious lover, new band, Breton and aka Disco as well as other's but that's all shhh shh at the moment! so its exciting times for NewIslands....

With all this happening in less than a year (the band formed in march)
It leaves you wondering what they will have for us this time next year? if justice is served, the band should be signed, on a world tour, and living the dream! I'm sure they will be! x

The Big Pink

Last Night me and Federica went to see The Big Pink, in true Teenage gig style we made the pilgrimage to the front of the stage!...I decided for once not to bring my camera and just enjoy the gig with my eyes (if I have my cam then i see most of the gig through the lens!)

So it was safe to say that it was the best gig of the year so far for me! Was Epic!

Here are a couple of sneaky pics I took on my blackberry! (Yeah well I couldn't completely resist)

Frankie and The....

Frankie and the Outs

Lo-fi Girl group that sound like they have come outta the 60s ? Nice!

Remember ...sometimes its not about hooks....Sometimes it about how a song makes you feel or an atmosphere they create....

This bands myspace remind me of lost tapes of years gone...
Leaves me feeling happy and nostalgic...!

France.....

As i have found 3 great bands this week thought I'd let you into another little secret -

France and The Habsburgs

The band have clear influence from The Fall and a hint of ian curtis in the vocal...They hail from Sunderland and the music has a dark industrial city vibe....they are great and my favorite track is Photographic heart...Once you have a listen to this gem you will be back for more.....

Just be East Coasting....

Ok so Federica was browsing the net, for new bands and she came across this - COASTING ....So had a listen and fell in love been a while since i came across a new band and in the last week i found 3! ......

Lou, James and Gaz all lived about 10 minutes away from each other in North London growing up. Lou met Darrell at Brighton University, studying English Literature and Fine Art Painting, respectively. All in different bands but we could see potential in the line-up and the other bands hand become quite creatively stifling; so, started practicing, although quite infrequently, and the dynamic seemed to produce some promising, original music.
took our time in the studio, working each other out and settling into a sound that seemed to work; we played our first gig in Brighton in April 2008 but still didn't play many gigs up until 2009, choosing to bide our time and concentrate on writing.
The music concentrates on the primal stuff of music, the visceral, natural, stripped-down elements of music, introducing sound-scape elements at periods. Concentrating on themes of sterility, Pale Fire, waste, beaches, stopped clocks, where the wild things are, the absurd, Watt, terra incognita
Individually we all have varying musical influences but as a group we share a common interest in Captain Beefheart, Billy Childish, Sonic Youth, DNA, Can, Faust, Liquid Liquid, Talking Heads, New Order......and in creating inventive, original and accomplished music to the best of our abilities.
Releasing a double A-side single in September through Parlour Records

Hockey - too much soul for the world?

Went to see Bear Hands, Hockey and passion pit on Monday @ Cargo!Just from the line-up you could tell it was a buzz gig and the place was full of industry...

3 wanted bands!
The show was sold out and rightly so!
Bear hands were amazing, this was the first time I’d seen them and they lived up to expectations and I’m gonna go see them again this weekend! Then came hockey, I’d heard a lot about them and have been loving the track "Too Fake" for a while but they were better than expected! And have since been listening to the song on repeat!
And will try and catch them at SXSW!

And then came Passion Pit, who i was looking forward to, but was a little disappointed...I left before the end, after the 2 "good" songs...it really all sounded the same...
Each to the own I guess!

Until next time!

Jonjo Feather -

If you have never heard of Jonjo Feather, i'd suggest a Listen...
He's been Described as -

"he looks and sounds like he could be the test-tube baby offspring of a great orgiastic love-in involving David Bowie and Lou Reed" - Leeds Music Scene

"...raspy sensuality and buzzed-up distorted swagger..."Taxi's" beats are off kilter and original, and the tune wheedles it's way into the brain... the Leeds scene has something to cheer again. Go Jonjo, go!" THE DAILY MIRROR
